As we get ready for our live AMA with the Discord community tomorrow (Oct 26th at 16:00 UTC > link here). We wanted to provide everyone with some initial background on how SuiNS started. Please plan to join us for our live AMA, where you can ask additional questions!

Introductory Interview with SuiNS Founder (Sean):

Hello, Sean! Our community knows you as SeanCali — one of the users on the discord server with the role of SuiNS Team. I think everyone is interested to know a little more about you! Tell us a bit about yourself, where are you from and what exactly are you responsible for in this project?

Sean: Hello! Well first let me say its a honor to be part of this awesome community! I am currently located in California, and am the founder of SuiNS as well as leading the project. I have a professional background in Data and AI where I've worked to help customers implement and use distributed databases for analytics.

How long have you been in the crypto-sphere and did you have any other projects before SuiNS?

Sean: I’ve been in the crypto space for many years now, starting early by mining litecoin on computers I built on milk crates. I have held many roles in the space. One of the more interesting roles was when I was journalist for Lets Talk Bitcoin where I had the opportunity of interviewing the inventor of proof-of-stake. That was fun!

How and when did this idea of SuiNS come about? And why did you choose Sui?

Sean: SuiNS was born out of a conversation with one of my friends on how blockchain will impact the gaming world. We had been discussing how ownership in gaming is important because platforms are now requiring users to pay for in-game items. However those users never have true ownership. Usernames is the first place where ownership should live and that is how we decided to create this capability through a Name Service.

What first got my attention with Sui was curiosity about what had happened with the engineering investment Facebook made in blockchain. After researching I quickly identified some of the leading projects. There are so many great things I can say about Sui from a technology perspective that are disruptive. I think one of the most powerful aspects of Sui in addition to the technology is the team. They have built a culture around pushing the limits for an amazing product and it really drives the ecosystem forward with what’s possible.

If you can, please tell us a little bit about the team working on the project right now?

Sean: Besides myself, we have several developers working on front-end, backend and contract creation. We have our advisor Technique helping with strategy and CryptoAnts who is running our IT infrastructure such as Discord backend/bots. From a community perspective we have our Community Managers Wolfer and Nikita along with help from our Mods that are located all over the world.

Is SuiNS a product for users or can it be useful for developers as well?

Sean: SuiNS will have two flagship products that will address both types of users in the blockchain community. Average users will want to get a .sui name to create their username and start defining their web3 identity. We will also have a .move name that will be used for our Object Naming Service. This is a great way for developers and entities to represent their products on-chain. Each name whether it is .sui or .move will have its own utility focused towards its own use case.

How do you see the future of SuiNS, what are your expectations of the project?

Sean: We see SuiNS becoming the gateway for usernames across all of blockchain gaming. Allowing our community to define a single username, and use it everywhere without having to remember passwords. Our goal and dedication is to make the project successful as it represents one of the core infrastructure components of the Sui blockchain.
